Job Description
Test Engineer manages testing activities; coordinates the development and execution of test plans; documents, implements, monitors, and enforces all processes and procedures for testing; assigns testing tasks within the testing team; facilitates communications between the development and testing teams; verifies readiness of release through release review process; obtains customer signature on deliverables; reviews and approves contractor test plans; drafts testing reports and forwards to Project Managers, Activity Project Managers, and Contract Project Managers; and prepares QA reports for release ready builds.  Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills are essential to this role. 


 Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct functional, system, integration, regression testing of software applications to identify bugs and issues. 
  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on software requirements and technical specifications. 
  • Reviews, evaluates and determines requirements for testability. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality throughout the software development lifecycle. 
  • Participates in reviews of systems and elements under development to ensure traceability of requirement compliance through verification and validation. 
  • Record test results and prepare detailed defect reports for developers. 
  • Help improve the quality assurance process by contributing to process improvement efforts. 
  • Actively engage in user acceptance testing (UAT) in coordination with end-users. 
  • Analyze test results and provide recommendations to improve software performance. 
  • Conducts readiness for system integration, test, evaluation, and transition activities. 
  • Produces reports on each test activity and tracks test metrics. 
  • Familiarity with Confluence, JIRA, and test case management systems for creating test artifacts and reporting for leadership. 
      
    Required Qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant experience, 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related scientific or technical discipline 
  • Experience working with developers, end users and organizations to create test plans and test scripts 
  • Experience with configuring necessary hardware and operating environments as needed to complete assigned testing 
  • Experience in writing or assisting in the development of test plans and test procedures 
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to demonstrate personal initiative
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required
  • Prior experience working with the VA and knowledge of VA VISTA systems and VA financial systems. 
  • Knowledge in testing functionality, matching to requirements, and in having primary responsibility for individual projects and systems 
  • Experience in writing / managing test plan with different components. 
  • Experience working in an Agile scrum solution development and testing environment 
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, One Note, Outlook) 
  • Able to pass a background check to obtain a VA Public Trust (High-Risk) clearance 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the Federal Government, Veteran's Administration (VA) experience a plus. 
  • Experience with Selenium and Java to perform automation testing. 
  • Experience working in a geographically dispersed project team environment 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, One Note, Outlook)
